Alona Del Rosario, Legal Advocate

Alona Del Rosario has been with UMOM since summer 2008, where she started as the Family Services Coordinator at Watkins Emergency Overflow Shelter. For the past three years she has served as the Legal Advocate at the agency's domestic violence shelter, working alongside a team of advocates and a case manager to provide victims of domestic violence with safe shelter and supportive services. Alona works to enhance victims' safety and assists them as they navigate the criminal and family justice systems. Some examples of working with victims include obtaining protection orders, exercising victims' rights, and providing court accompaniment. She is a graduate of Northern Arizona University and completed her master's degree in criminal justice at Arizona State University in 2008.

Phyllis Swaglin, GED Tutor Volunteer

Phyllis and Rose are retired teachers and Bill is a retired medical social worker. He does all our copy work, keeps our supplies up and distributes works to clients. Phyllis and Rose were nuns in the Toledo Ursulines where they taught. Both got degrees from Mary Manse College. After the convent Rose got her Masters in early childhood education with a specialty in Language arts from Ohio State University. Phyllis chose to work with a graduate program from the National Science Foundation with 4 grants from The University of Nebraska, Colgate University, Hope College and Syracuse University. These grants were for work with the reluctant learner and individualized programs in math. This is by far the most fulfilling and rewarding volunteer program we have ever been involved in!

Susan Gitell is the Career Development Coordinator at UMOM New Day Centers. Sue provides and coordinates career development services to UMOM New Day Centers’ clients, helping them create both short term and long term career goals. Sue works collaboratively with administrators, case management, and counselors at UMOM to ensure the delivery of career development assistance.
