Furnishing Hope Helps UMOM Family

For many UMOM residents, transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing can be an extremely emotional time in their lives. For Stacey, she was overjoyed to have a home to call her own; however she faced the tough challenge of finding items to furnish her three bedroom apartment. Fortunately, with the assistance of our Resident Services Liaison and other staff members, Stacey was connected with Furnishing Hope, a local nonprofit that helps people in need furnish their homes.

After filling out an application, Stacey was selected to pick out a couch, three beds, linens, kitchen table and tons supplies to furnish her new place. A few days after the furniture was delivered, I asked Stacey how she was doing with all her new stuff.  She replied, “The place is so messy, I’m use to an empty apartment with nothing to clean, but I am so happy we have a kitchen table to eat at as a family.”

UMOM staff and residents are thankful for all of our community partners who help us acheive our mission of providing homeless families and individuals with safe shelter, housing and supportive services to assist them in reaching their greatest potential. It may seem like a small detail, but furniture really makes a place feel like a home for our families.
