Arizona Multihousing Association (AMA) and its members have a tradition of being involved in Arizona’s community outreach programs and projects.
The AMA’s Big Hearts for Little Hands campaign helps various shelters statewide, among them – UMOM New Day Centers in Phoenix and New Beginnings for Women & Children in Tucson.
Each year, 350 to 375 member apartment communities in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas participate along with AMA member management companies and suppliers.
The campaign runs from mid-September to early December. Campaign members organize a can drive, promote fundraisers such as car washes and yard sales, host a Bowl-A-Thon, and many other activities. Since 2005, the campaign has raised more than $600,000 to help address the issue of homelessness.
In addition to fundraising, AMA members volunteer at the shelters to read to the children, help prepare meals, offer parents life-skill training, provide job-seeking advice, inform parents of employment opportunities and assist with donations. Others donate household and personal care items, furniture, computers, clothing and help out with maintenance and construction projects.
