A New Day for Employment at UMOM

Here at UMOM we believe that employment + housing = ends homelessness. In order to better assist the families and single women we serve, we have opened the New Day Employment Center, a new training and employment center for UMOM clients. The Center is in a repurposed space located on our New Day Centers campus in Phoenix. The space has been renovated to serve every UMOM client, no matter what their employment needs are.

UMOM clients will be able to engage with job readiness programs, soft-skills trainings, GED classes, vocational trainings, job searching, employers on site and one-on-one meetings with Workforce Development Specialists. The new space features 24 computers and a classroom space for job readiness courses. Workforce Development staff will have offices in the new Center, and there will be space for one of UMOM’s partner agencies, St. Joseph the Worker. This will make accessing help and resources easier than ever before. In addition, a bright, beautiful mural by artist Sara Altieri covers the walls of the Center to inspire those we serve on their journey to ending their homelessness.

Prior to the opening of the New Day Employment Center, there were employment centers located on the main campus and at the Halle Women’s Center. With the resources provided there, 487 clients exited UMOM with employment in 2018. UMOM’s goal is to serve even more clients in 2019 and beyond, with one larger, more efficient space for all clients, where programming is centralized and simplified.

We couldn’t have done this without the amazing generosity of our community. With the support of companies like Nunn’s Construction, Microsoft and Market’s West we were able to renovate, furnish and provide the tools needed to create a new day for employment at UMOM. Thank you so much for your support!
