UMOM Nears Completion of $18.5 Million Capital Campaign to Expand Services for Families

Every day, families across Maricopa County face impossible choices as they search for safe, stable housing. Today, more than 200 families are waiting for emergency shelter in Phoenix, highlighting the growing need for affordable housing and supportive services in our community. 

To help meet that need, UMOM New Day Centers is in the final stretch of its $18.5 million Capital Campaign, an effort that is transforming our campus, expanding shelter capacity, and strengthening the programs that help families move from crisis to stability. 

To date, the campaign has raised more than $18.19 million, leaving less than $400,000 to reach its goal. 

Funds from the campaign are supporting critical investments across UMOM's campus, including expanded shelter accommodations for larger families, enhanced health services, workforce development programming, case management support, and welcoming community spaces where families can heal, connect, and rebuild their lives. 

Over the last three years, these investments have already generated meaningful change. UMOM has renovated indoor and outdoor common areas throughout its main campus and expanded its capacity to serve larger families by converting 30% of shelter rooms into larger accommodations. UMOM has also continued to develop affordable housing solutions, including La Esperanza Terrace and the recently closed Salamanca Square.

The impact of these investments can be seen in UMOM's FY26 results: 

• 410,289 nights of safe shelter provided 

• 2,528 clients moved into permanent housing 

• 665 adults exited a program with a job 

• 86% of families in emergency shelter exited to permanent housing, exceeding the county's community goal by 17 percentage points 

• 97% of Rapid Rehousing clients who signed a lease moved into permanent housing 

• 98% of veteran families exited to permanent housing, helping keep veteran family homelessness in Maricopa County at or near functional zero 

As we approach the finish line of this campaign, we are inviting our community to help complete this transformational effort.
